BMW P0100 Code — MAF Sensor Problem (Diagnosis and Fix)

The P0100 code on your BMW indicates an issue with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

What It Means

The MAF sensor measures incoming air.
If it fails, the ECU calculates fuel incorrectly.

👉 Result:

  • poor performance
  • high fuel consumption
  • jerking

Common Causes

1. Dirty MAF Sensor

6

  • dust
  • oil
  • dirty filter

2. Faulty Sensor

  • internal failure
  • electronics issue

3. Wiring Problems

  • broken wires
  • corrosion

4. Vacuum Leaks

  • cracked hoses
  • intake leaks

🔧 How to Diagnose MAF (Practical)

1. Multimeter Test

11

👉 Steps:

  1. Turn ignition ON
  2. Locate MAF connector
  3. Measure voltage

Normal:

  • power: ~12V
  • signal: ~0.5–1.5V at idle

👉 Voltage should increase when revving

2. Quick Unplug Test

  1. Disconnect MAF
  2. Start engine

👉 If engine runs better → faulty MAF

3. OBD2 Scan

  • check airflow values
  • unstable readings = issue

4. Visual Inspection

  • dirt
  • oil
  • damage

What to Do

  1. Clean with MAF cleaner
  2. Check wiring
  3. Fix leaks
  4. Replace sensor if needed
